Current focus: a data product marketplace for humans and agents — data products described by data contracts and connected through a semantic layer, so that people and their agents can discover data, understand it, and get governed access to it. ### Open standards On the technical steering committee for the [Open Data Contract Standard](https://github.com/bitol-io/open-data-contract-standard) and the [Open Data Product Standard](https://github.com/bitol-io/open-data-product-standard), both governed by [Bitol](https://bitol.io) at the Linux Foundation. Most of what I build and speak about sits on top of these two. ### Open source Maintaining [datacontract-cli](https://github.com/datacontract/datacontract-cli), which implements ODCS and now sees around 1.4M downloads a month, and [datacontract-editor](https://github.com/datacontract/datacontract-editor). Newest is [Data Landscape](https://www.data-landscape.com), a map of the open standards behind a modern data architecture. Full list on [open source](https://simonharrer.com/open-source.html). ### Speaking A busy autumn ahead. Next up: Data Product Builder: Building Your Data Product Contract-first at the POA Summit 2026 in Antwerp on 17 September. Then October brings three German sessions — a full-day Datenkontrakte in der Praxis workshop at data2day 2026 in Köln on 6 October, and at the Software Architecture Summit 2026 in Berlin both a workshop with Arif Wider, Mit Data Contracts Vertrauen in Daten herstellen (12 October), and the keynote Agentic AI ist der nächste große Schritt der generativen KI (13 October). Behind me: two sessions at SummerSOC 2026 in Crete — Overview on Standards for Data Products and Chat with your Enterprise Data — closing out a June that also brought a Data Contracts workshop at Data Mesh Live 2026 in Antwerpen, A Data Marketplace is What Your Agent Needs at the DATA festival in München, and two sessions at TDWI München 2026. Full list on [talks](https://simonharrer.com/talks.html). ### Writing & research Peer-reviewed work on data contracts, data governance with GenAI, and LLM-bridged data products — see [research](https://simonharrer.com/research.html). Instead of extracting tables, exploring, and documenting later, you agree on what consumers need first, write it down as a data contract covering ownership, schema, semantics, quality, and SLAs, and only then build the product to satisfy it. This ordering is what makes data products trustworthy — and it is exactly what coding agents need. A contract written first is a spec: clear, testable requirements an agent can build against instead of guessing from raw data. Contract-first is spec-driven development for data, and the contract is the spec. The talk goes contract-first end to end, live. The contract is specified in the Open Data Contract Standard (ODCS), and only then implemented. Working from that spec in a live coding session, a coding agent uses skills to build a dbt project that implements the data product: discovering the upstream source data products it needs through a data marketplace, requesting access, and wiring them into the dbt models that satisfy the contract. The skills come from a skill repository that captures the conventions for building a data product on your stack — here, a dbt project on Snowflake — so the agent follows your team's way of working rather than inventing its own. Because the contract is executable, it stays the source of truth: a living test suite, run via the Data Contract CLI against the actual data, that holds both the data product and the agent to the spec in your terminal and in CI. 3rd Industry Summit on Data Product Oriented Architectures ### Chat with your Enterprise Data 30 June 2026 · SummerSOC 2026, Crete, Greece (15:30–16:00) · English · Talk https://simonharrer.com/talks.html#talk-2026-9 Part of the "Chat with your Data" session (Session Chair: Bernhard Mitschang). Also auch JIRA. Entwickler:innen entwickeln flexible Lösungen. Architekt:innen definieren Referenz-Architekturen. Operations führt Kubernetes ein. Security Experts erstellen Checklisten.
